March 29, 1-4 pm: Fly Tying and Aquatic Health Event at JH Ketcham Memorial Park Pavilion, organized by the Dutchess Land Conservancy, Housatonic Valley Association, Mid-Hudson Trout Unlimited, and the Town of Dover CAC. This is a community event where you can learn how to tie flies for fly fishing, discuss the importance of the aquatic health of our rivers, and have snacks and coffee. Stop by for a short time or stay the entire afternoon. Fly fishing is an important component of water conservation! It inherently encourages anglers to prioritize the health of aquatic ecosystems by promoting catch-and-release practices, fostering a deep connection to the natural environment, and actively advocating for the protection of clean water resources necessary for healthy fish populations [register].

April 1, 5 pm: Bridging the Gap Part 3: A Land Access Education Series, an online event organized by the Dutchess Land Conservancy, Columbia Land Conservancy, and Rock Steady Farm. This is the third in a series of online and in-person events, the aim of which is to educate landowners in Columbia and Dutchess counties about the land access needs of beginning QTPOC (queer, trans people of color) landworkers, and the importance of providing spaces to farm for communities that have been historically marginalized and underfunded within the agricultural system [register].

April 2, 6 pm: Steve Kutos: Partners for Life: Trees & Fungi, an Earth Matters webinar presented by the Dutchess Land Conservancy. Fungi and plants have coexisted for millions of years. Without both organisms, our world would look very different. In this webinar, Dr. Kutos will discuss the wonderful world of fungi and their close relationship with trees. Dr. Steve Kutos is a research ecologist at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo & Conservation Biology Institute. His research explores the relationship between plants and the microorganisms that live on and around them. His current research examines the links between the microbiome and the conservation and flavor quality of coffee [register].

Apfel is a Hudson Valley artist who specializes in making paintings with handwritten text. Emily McElwreath is equipped with over eighteen years of experience as an adviser, independent curator, art educator, and brand consultant. She is the founder of McElwreath Art Advisory, in addition to being host and CEO of The Art Career Podcast [register].

In this workshop, painter Polly Shindler will lead participants in an afternoon focused on exploration of form and composition.
